Saudi Defense Ministry to Take Deterrent Actions to Protect Oil Exports after Houthi Attacks
Gulf
Asharq Al-AwsatSpokesman for the Saudi Defense Ministry Turki al-Malki condemned on Friday the Iran-backed Houthi militias for their cowardly attack against a petroleum products station in Jizan. This act of sabotage not only targets the Kingdom and its economic infrastructure, but the backbone of the global economy and oil supplies and freedom of marine navigation and trade, he added, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The attack also proves the terrorist militias’ disregard for the environmental and economic repercussions of their actions, he stressed. He said the Saudi air defenses destroyed eight armed drones that the Houthis had deliberately fired on Thursday at civilian locations in the Kingdom in flagrant violation of international law. They also fired three ballistic missiles towards the Kingdom, one of which landed in Yemen’s al-Jawf region. The other two fell in uninhabited border areas. Malki stressed that these latest attacks demonstrate the Houthis’ rejection of all political efforts aimed at ending the crisis in Yemen, significantly after Saudi Arabia declared its new initiative on the conflict on Monday. They also demonstrate Iran’s continued hegemony over the Houthis’ political and military decision-making power in favor of achieving its destructive agenda of spreading chaos and undermining regional and international security. He vowed that the Defense Ministry will take the necessary deterrent measures to protect Saudi Arabia and global energy supplies and put an end to such attacks.
