Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum kicked off Monday a working visit to Madrid at the invitation of his Spanish counterpart, Arancha Gonzalez Laya, to discuss means of enhancing relations between their countries. An Algerian Foreign Ministry statement said Boukadoum will meet with a number of Spanish officials, including King Felipe VI. The same statement added that the visit comes within the framework of traditional and regular consultations between the two countries. The framework was signed by both parties in 2002, under the title of “Friendship and Good Neighborhood and Cooperation.” The visit also aims to enhance political dialogue and strategic partnership on all issues and in all fields of common interest, especially under current international circumstances that know many crises. Following a meeting with his Spanish counterpart Monday, Boukadoum said his country is a “solid and reliable partner” of Spain, expressing his desire for the economic relations between the two countries to deepen. This is Boukadoum’s first visit to Spain since his appointment as minister. For her part, Spanish FM said Algeria is a “strategic partner,” praising the effective and close cooperation that both countries maintain on issues “as sensitive” as migratory flows or the fight against terrorism. The Spanish minister has also valued Algeria’s work in maintaining stability and peace in the Sahel countries. Boukadoum is expected to meet with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and a number of politicians, including Speaker Meritxell Batet Lamana and the Fourth Vice President of the Government and Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera.
