Libyan Govt Vows to Curb COVID-19 Surge

Cairo - Jamal JawharHead of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohammed al-Menfi urged the government to accelerate work to fight the coronavirus outbreak that has ravaged the country. Also, Spokesperson of the Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) Mohamed Hamouda said that curbing the pandemic is the government's top priority. In this regard, the government is fast-tracking the vaccination campaign to stem the spread of the virus, which is spreading brutally in the west of the country. Moreover, the Municipal Council of Bani Walid maintained the restrictions taken on Tuesday, including closing popular markets and mosques and suspending lectures for ten days. The Council also punished shop owners who violated the preventative precautions. Sabha Medical Center revealed Thursday that up to 231 cases were registered since the beginning of the month, in addition to 14 deaths during the same period. Libya recorded 912 new cases, with Tripoli reporting the highest number of infections. The Supreme Committee for Health Emergencies indicated that up to 430 vaccination centers are set across Libya.
