Saudi Govt: Initiative to End Yemen Crisis Reflects Kingdom’s Keenness on its Stability

The Saudi government stressed on Tuesday that the Kingdom’s new initiative to end the Yemeni crisis reflects Riyadh’s commitment to reaching a comprehensive political solution. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the cabinet meeting that was held virtually due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The government added that the political solution in Yemen must be based on the three references, which are the national dialogue outcomes, Gulf initiative and United Nations Security Council resolution 2216. The Saudi initiative reflects the Kingdom’s keenness on the security and stability of Yemen and the region, added the ministers. King Salman expressed his gratitude for countries and regional and international organizations that expressed their solidarity with Saudi Arabia in wake of the cowardly terrorist attack that targeted the Riyadh refinery last week. The government reiterated the Kingdom’s condemnation of such acts that have repeatedly targeted its vital installations and civilian areas. Such attacks not only target Saudi Arabia, but the security and stability of energy supplies and the global economy. The government slammed the attacks as violations of international laws, urging the world to stand against their perpetrators and enablers. Saudi Arabia has the full right to defend its territories, civilians and residents, it stressed, while also vehemently rejecting Iran’s meddling in the region that has only prolonged the Yemeni crisis. The government accused Tehran of smuggling rockets and weapons to the Houthi militias in Yemen in violation of relevant Security Council resolutions. On regional developments, the government slammed Israel for its continued settlement expansion in the West Bank, including east Jerusalem. It underlined Saudi Arabia’s ongoing support for the Palestinian cause on all political and economic levels.
