Cairo - Asharq Al-AwsatEgypt’s Army Chief of Staff Lt. General Mohamed Farid led on Monday a high-ranking military delegation to partake in the seventh meeting of the Egyptian-Sudanese Military Committee in Khartoum. The Egyptian Armed Forces issued a statement saying that the Chief of Staff will hold several major meetings that will focus on military cooperation and the strategic partnership with Sudan. Egypt and Sudan share wide cooperation relations that deepened after the ouster of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in 2019 and Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s assumption of the Sovereign Council’s presidency. In November 2020, the first phase of the Egyptian-Sudanese air force military drill, dubbed ”The Nile Eagles 1,” kicked off in one of Khartoum’s air bases. The Egyptian and Sudanese special and air forces carried out the drill, which was the first of its kind between the two neighboring countries. Farid had previously visited Khartoum in November, during which the Egyptian and Sudanese leaderships agreed to support military and security cooperation to bolster bilateral capabilities and confront challenges facing both countries' national security. They also agreed to carry out more drills for all of their armed forces’ branches, amid intensified cooperation in the fields of rehabilitation, training, exchange of experiences, border security, and combating terrorism, as well as technical insurance and military industries. In addition, they decided to enhance the role of the armed forces in both countries in development and infrastructure projects.
