Saudi Arabia welcomed on Friday the formation of a new Yemeni government in line with the Riyadh Agreement. The Foreign Ministry hailed the keenness of Yemeni parties on prioritizing their country’s interests and meeting the aspirations of the people in restoring security and stability. The implementation of the Riyadh Agreement is a significant step towards reaching a political solution and ending the Yemeni crisis, it said in a statement. It also underlined the directives of the Saudi leadership to continue all efforts exerted by Riyadh to support Yemen so that it achieves security, stability and prosperity. The Saudi-led Arab coalition in Yemen announced on Friday a new power-sharing cabinet that would include Southern Transitional Council (STC) members in the legitimate government. The 24-member government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi is based in the southern port of Aden. Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik was reappointed to head the new cabinet, which includes five ministers from Yemen’s biggest political blocs, including the STC and Islah party, a statement from Hadi’s office said. The new government followed two weeks of separation of forces and redeployment of troops in the south that would see their return to battlefronts with the Iran-backed Houthi militias in the north and to outside Aden, the heavily disputed port city.
