Yemen Health Minister to Asharq Al-Awsat: King Salman Medical City Is a Qualitative Leap for Mahra
Interviews
Aden – Ali RabihYemen’s Health and Population Minister Qasim Buhaibeh has extolled efforts spent by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) which has inked a fresh deal to implement a series of projects across Yemen. “It is fortunate for the new Yemeni government that its first day at work will be marked with the signing of tremendous projects undertaken by SDRPY, including the construction of the first phase of the King Salman Medical and Educational City in Mahra,” Buhaibeh told Asharq Al-Awsat. For the first phase, a hospital with the capacity of over 100 beds will be built. This will be followed by the construction of a university that includes a medicine faculty. “This project will constitute a quantum leap for health and development services in the governorate and in eastern Yemen in general,” Buhaibeh said. SDRPY is also rehabilitating Aden International Airport and al-Aber road in Marib. The minister said that those projects will provide great support for the country’s infrastructure and economy. “The future will be better,” he confirmed. Public Works and Highways Minister Maneh bin Yammine praised the SDRPY for taking on the rehabilitation of al-Aber road, dubbed by Yemenis as the “highway to death” given its poor maintenance and frequency of accidents taking place on it. He explained that restoration works will be divided into three phases. Bin Yammine said that the new Yemeni power-sharing government has sensed seriousness on part of the SDRPY, which is led by General Supervisor Ambassador Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber, in supporting the country’s legitimate institutions. SDRPY has implemented more than 193 projects in seven primary sectors, namely education, health, water, energy, transportation, agriculture and fisheries and government capacity building.
