The inaugural Saudi Media Forum kicked off in Riyadh on Monday with the participation of 1,000 experts from 32 countries. Held under the title, “Media Making: Opportunities and Challenges,” it will feature 50 sessions and workshops over a two-day period. Saudi diplomat and journalist Jamil al-Hejailan was awarded media personality of the year, while journalists and reporters at the Saudi Research and Marketing Group received the lion’s share of the event’s awards. Abdul Rahman al-Rashed won the award of best column writer, Adhwan AlAhmary, editor-in-chief of Independent Arabia, received the best political journalism award. Asharq Al-Awsat’s Jamal Jawhar received the award for best investigative journalism, Mohammed al-Rayyes, of Arab News, received the award for best caricature and Adnan Mahdali, of al-Eqtisadiah, received the award for best photojournalism. Saudi Information Minister Turki al-Shabanah handed out awards to several media figures in recognition of their work.
