Saudi Arabia Sponsors Distance Learning for Yemenis

After the Saudi experiment to teach students residing on the southern border of the kingdom through e-learning and distance learning succeeded, the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aids ratified an agreement of cooperation under which an executive programme that will educate Yemeni students remotely will begin from the coming academic year.

Under the agreement, the Yemeni curriculum will be taught in coordination with the Yemeni Ministry of Education, the Supreme Committee for the Relief of Yemen and a company for the development of education in Saudi Arabia. Educational materials will be transformed into computer and television resources.

The Saudi Minister of Education Dr Ahmed Al-Issa said that the agreement will cover educational services for Yemenis, and will provide educational opportunities for students through e-learning and distance learning. A large number of students in the camps for displaced people inside Yemen or refugee camps in Djibouti will benefit from the agreement. He also noted that the efforts made by Saudi Arabia are part of its keenness to take care of those who have been affected by the events of Yemen.

He also stated that the Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia has extensive experience of teaching students on the southern border. Dr Ahmed Al-Issa added that programmed educational packs would be streamed through websites that teachers would deal with directly, and that students would be provided with tests. In addition to this, the ministry has 12 TV channels that offer intensive classes to the beneficiaries. He continued by saying that the beneficiaries’ level of education would improve as a result of the programme and emphasised that Saudi Arabia is keen on providing correct information through those curriculums.

Dr Ahmed Al-Issa also mentioned that 200,000 Yemeni students are educated in Saudi schools and that the kingdom awards Yemenis with scholarships to study at Saudi universities.
