Despite Challenges, Major Leap in Saudi Logistics

Jeddah- Specialized analysts forecast that Saudi logistics will experience a prodigious leap in the upcoming period – the jump is concurrent to the anticipated industrial 20 percent growth in the next five years.


Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, analysts clarified that remarkable growth of logistics will come in light of industrial cities and ports expanding—over 45 km2 have been allotted to the Saudi Industrial Property Authority.


The Saudi Industrial Property authority is a national institution playing a role in stimulating investment and cultivating employment opportunities through developing industrial cities. Development covering 25 km2 in Jeddah has already begun while the other 20km2 are still underway.


On his behalf Muwaffaq al-Harith, Chairman of Saudi Al Harithy Company for Exhibitions (ACE), said that logistics flow in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is enhancing substantially, benefiting from sustained expansion in industrial and retail sectors.


Moreover, the improved flow of logistics is backed by the development of infrastructure. Al-Harith added that in the upcoming period the region will also witness a revolutionary leap in the supply chain in light of implementation of the Kingdom’s vision 2020.


He explained that as industrial cities grow logistics services will be needed to keep up with the progress, which will present promising opportunities before specialized companies.


Messe Frankfurt Middle East CEO Ahmed Pauwels stated that materials Handling Saudi Arabia is the latest development in our ongoing expansion in the Kingdom, and together with Materials Handling Middle East, we have a dual platform offering intralogistics and supply chain players unmatched access to one of the most promising markets in the world.


Saudi’s logistics and materials handling industry is undergoing immense expansion and change and with it challenges that are unique to the Kingdom, Pauwles added.


Capital Market Authority official Ibrahim made it clear that Saudi Arabia holds the capacities for becoming one of the best logistics center and for playing a major role through serving in Middle Eastern and North African markets.


He added that logistics sector in Saudi Arabia is witnessing an unprecedented expansive campaign, launching large-scale projects on developing airports, maritime harbors and road networks.
