Ramallah-After hours of arguments and the exchange of accusations, the Israeli army said that it “mistakenly” killed a Palestinian teen and wounded four others. The Israeli troops said that teens threw firebombs, rocks, and spilled oil on the route 443 near Ramallah, while the Palestinian authority pledged to refer the case to the International Criminal Court and to accuse Israel of executing the dead youth.
An Israeli army spokesman said that Mahmoud Badran, 15, wasn’t involved in the accident and that he was mistakenly killed.
Another military spokesperson said that the Israeli forces chased the attackers and shot them. Yet, the results of a primary investigation showed that they were not involved in the accident, and that they were mistakenly shot during the pursuit.
The Palestinian ministry of health announced that the operation killed Badran and wounded four others. Three of them were moved to be treated in Palestine’s Medical Complex in Ramallah, while the forth injured was moved in an Israeli hospital for treatment. The ministry described their injuries as average and dangerous.
The ministry also announced that with the martyrdom of Badran, the number of Palestinian martyrs reached 220 since the current intifada started on October 3. It is worth mentioning that Badran’s father was a previous prisoner, released from Israeli detention in 1999 after 15 years of incarceration.
Saeb Erekat, secretary-general of the PLO’s executive committee has deeply condemned the execution crime committed by the Israeli forces against Badran. In a statement, Erekat said that the Israeli occupation and the Israeli war criminals will be handed over to international justice.
The PLO secretary-general urged U.N. Rapporteur Christophe Heinz, who is specialized in illegal executions, to launch an urgent official investigation that includes all the Israeli violent and illegal practices against the Palestinian people. He also asked the countries that support the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks to take all the needed measures that stop the occupation’s violations.
Erekat finally called for holding Israel accountable, saying justice is the main condition for peace.
The Palestinian ministry of foreign affairs said that the field execution operation implemented by Israel comes in line with the constant objection of Netanyahu’s government to all the international and regional initiatives and efforts that seek to revive peace. The ministry condemned the execution operations, and noted that these practices emphasize the extremism of the current Israeli government.
It also urged all the concerned organizations and the international community to condemn this crime, to urgently document it, and to refer it to the national and international specialized courts to arrest the perpetrators and hold them accountable.
