Riyadh, Washington, London – Asharq Al-AwsatCustodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz stressed on Thursday that Saudi Arabia was pursuing its present and future by taking inspiration from the sacrifices of its forefathers and ancestors for the nation and people. In a tweet marking National Day, he said: “We thank God for the blessings he has bestowed on this nation, ranging from security, stability and development.” “We will pursue our present and future by taking inspiration from our forefathers and ancestors,” he stressed. National Day celebration swept the Kingdom on Thursday, with buildings and landmarks adorned in green, the country’s national color. Celebrations included aerial, land and sea shows, as well as fireworks, musical performances and parades. King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, received several cables of congratulations on the occasion from Gulf, Arab, and western leaders. They included cables from United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; his deputy Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the prime minister and ruler of Dubai; and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed. King Salman also received cables from Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, his Deputy Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani. He received a cable from Lebanese President Michel Aoun, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdullatif Derian, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi, former Premier Fuad Saniora and resigned MP Marwan Hamadeh. He also received cables from Morocco’s King Mohammed VI and Pakistani PM Imran Khan. All senders expressed their congratulations to Saudi Arabia on the occasion, praising its achievements in various fields. They underscored the deep and strong fraternal relations that bind them with the Kingdom, wishing it, its leadership and people further success, prosperity and development. The United States congratulated Saudi Arabia on National Day, saying both countries “shared eight decades of partnership, cooperation and mutual friendship.” “The strength of our ties has propelled our two nations’ prosperity and has underpinned the region’s security,” said Secretary of State Antony Blinken. “We are expanding our collaboration, including in addressing the challenge of the climate crisis and supporting a strong international response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as fostering a broad global economic recovery. We are working together to address shared security challenges and forge a future of peace and economic prosperity.”
