Varieties
London - Asharq Al-AwsatMany artistic events were forced to go virtual because of the pandemic, but the largest free art festival in Berlin is making an open-air comeback in Neukölln, the capital's modern suburb known for its amazing blend of casual cafes and Arab restaurants, according to the dpa agency. The annual 48 Hours Neukölln festival has allowed artists to acquire the largest number of stores, bars, and cafes in the neighborhood, to exhibit their works and enable visitors to wander across the streets, to enjoy the artworks displayed in the store windows while tasting snacks and drinks. Before the pandemic, the festival used to take place during a weekend in June, and lured thousands of visitors. In 2020, the 48 Hours Neukölln was held online, however, this year's hybrid edition scheduled between June 18 and 20, will be held as a real event, as Berlin's weather improves and the city's officials intend to lift further restrictions. The festival's organizers say they will use "plenty of fresh air," which means statues and paintings will be displayed in outdoor spaces. Over 600 artists are focusing on the idea of convenience which requires a lot of "fresh air" this year. Around 250 art projects are scheduled during the festivals' weekend, and over 75 other projects will go online in a digital exhibition. According to the organizers, 48 Hours Neukölln is the biggest free art festival in Berlin.
