Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed on Monday that the Kingdom still maintains its stance in supporting the efforts of the international anti-ISIS coalition. He added that this position stems from Saudi Arabia’s keenness on the stability of Iraq and allowing it to impose its authority and sovereignty throughout its territories. Prince Faisal was in Rome to attend the ministerial meeting of the international anti-ISIS coalition. “The Kingdom appreciates the major role the coalition is playing. It has played a decisive role in ending the group’s control over Iraq and Syria and liberating nearly 8 million people from it,” he continued. “Despite these achievements, we must not ignore the fact that the organization is still a threat. This demands that all sides continue efforts and coordination to contain and eliminate ISIS completely,” he urged. He hailed in this regard the efforts taken by Iraq and its constant coordination with the coalition to eliminate ISIS. Prince Faisal stressed Saudi Arabia’s keenness on supporting the coalition’s mission militarily and in preserving stability, eliminating the phenomenon of foreign terrorist fighters, preventing the financing of the organization, and combating ISIS’ ideology. Moreover, the minister underscored the need to unify efforts, exchange information and coordinate effectively to address the “worrying” reports coming from Africa, specifically the Sahel region, where ISIS is taking hold. ISIS and other terrorist groups there pose a threat to international peace and security, he warned. On the sidelines of the meeting, Prince Faisal met with United Nations envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen, and his counterparts from the Netherlands, Sigrid Kaag; France, Jean-Yves Le Drian; Libya, Najla al-Mangoush; Iraq, Dr. Fuad Hussein; and Jordan, Ayman al-Safadi. He also met with European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell.
