Morocco announced on Tuesday that more than 8 million people received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine since the country kicked off its vaccination campaign on January 28. “There are 4,947,483 fully vaccinated people,” the ministry said in its daily report on the pandemic. It recorded 310 new coronavirus cases and 276 recoveries. The latest numbers bring to 517,423 the total number of infections since the first case was detected in March 2020 in the Kingdom, while the number of people who have recovered rose to 505,668, at a rate of 97.7%. The total number of deaths from complications caused by the disease has reached 9,129, bringing the fatality rate at 1.8%. The deaths were recorded in the regions of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Marrakech-Safi and Souss-Massa. The ministry urged the people to continue to respect the precautionary and preventive measures, in order to preserve the significant achievements made in the national immunization campaign. Separately, Moroccan Prime Minister Saadeddine Othmani said that due to measures taken by his government to support companies affected by COVID-19, the bankruptcy rate of Moroccan firms has decreased by 20 percent in 2020 compared to 2019. “This enabled us to save more than 157,000 jobs between the second and fourth quarters of 2020,” he said.
