Calls for Million-Man Demonstration in Washington to Support Palestinians

More than 100 Palestinian, Arab and Muslim organizations based in the US plan to stage a million-man march in Washington on Saturday in support of Palestine and to demand sanctions on Israel. The National March for Palestine will kick off at the Lincoln Memorial starting at 3:00 pm, and then head to the US Congress, along Pennsylvania Avenue. Human rights organizations have called for mobilization for the march, which will be the largest protest in US history supporting the Palestinian cause, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported. It said the march is part of the new Sanction Israel campaign calling on the Biden administration and Congress to sanction Israel and stop giving it billions in US tax dollars and military hardware, like the very same bombs that the Israeli government just used to obliterate entire Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip. “We are working to mobilize the largest gathering in support of the Palestinian cause in the US capital,” said Morgan Abu Mahmoud, one of the march’s organizers in Texas. He said Palestinian communities are expected to travel towards Washington on Saturday to deplore the crimes committed by Israel and to send a message to the US administration that Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque are a red line. Abu Mahmoud explained that buses will be available at the centers of several cities to move protesters to Washington DC. Saturday’s march comes following several protests held in the past few weeks in many cities, including New York, Chicago, Texas and San Francisco, in protest of Israel’s onslaught on Gaza and its actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. “We are proud to be part of the growing movement in America that is calling attention to crimes committed by Israel and working to end US support for those crimes,” said Faizan Syed, Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
