The Ministry of Health and Population in Egypt said Friday that 1,133 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of infections to 259,540. In a statement, the ministry said 46 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 14,950. Egypt renewed calls on citizens to register on the ministry’s website to receive the coronavirus vaccine. There are as many as 400 vaccination centers in all governorates nationwide. The ministry confirmed that it will continue to receive more vaccines as part of agreements signed with different companies and the International Alliance for Serums and Vaccines (GAVI), along with the production of vaccines locally. In the meantime, the universities in Egypt imposed precautionary measures during the second term's exams. Cairo University President Mohamed Othman Elkhosht said that exam halls have been set up to respect physical distancing, in addition to providing isolation rooms, ambulances, and medical teams. Earlier, the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities ordered providing colleges with thermometers, masks, and sanitizers.
