The national Yemeni army dismissed on Sunday claims by the Iran-backed Houthi militias that they had seized control of the Marib province. Military spokesman Abdo Majali told Asharq Al-Awsat that the province was secured and stable, away from Houthi clutches. The province is being protected by the army, resistance and Arab coalition jets. He warned that the Houthis were spreading rumors about their alleged victory in Marib. Furthermore, Majali accused the Houthis of working with terrorist organizations, notably al-Qaeda and ISIS. These groups paved the way for the Houthis to breach al-Bayda and other areas, he explained. He accused the Houthis of fabricating claims that they were combating al-Qaeda and ISIS in order to promote an image that they were fighting terrorism and cover up their relations with these organizations. The Houthis themselves are a terror group, he added, accusing them of working with other such terrorists to kill the Yemeni people. An example of the cooperation between al-Qaeda, ISIS and the Houthis is the latter’s release of several detained terrorists from their jails, Majali revealed.
