Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on Friday accused unnamed parties of systematically attacking the country’s economy through currency manipulation. He also acknowledged the presence of disputes within the transitional government and the ruling coalition. Hamdok vowed to set in motion dialogue to agree on a plan that resolves the country’s national struggles. In an interview marking a year passing since the formation of the transitional government, Hamdok stressed that he was voted into office by public will and that he was prepared to resign in the event of losing the people’s support. He added that he is ready to hand over power to whatever figure elected by the people. He explained that the Sudanese have a historic opportunity to implement a national project that follows the remarkable change brought about by the popular revolution. The Sudanese PM highlighted the steady development in foreign relations, saying it is a result of efforts exerted by the government to end estrangement and isolation caused by the former regime’s policies. “We were able to establish relations that go well with our Arab brothers,” he said, referring to Saudi Arabia recently hosting the Friends of Sudan Conference which discussed challenges facing peace in Sudan. On internal disputes, Hamdok cited challenges facing the government and ruling coalition and said that political parties are seeking to bridge the gap through dialogue and agreeing on a roadmap to resolving problems during the transition period. “My message to the Resistance Committees, we are in one boat and there is no victor or vanquished, the only victor is the homeland, I hope that we do not sink into our differences,” he said in his address to anti-government protesters. “They need to protect the revolution because they are its protectors and guards … We have brought down the regime. Let us work in the construction battle, and our doors are open for them at any time. There is no reason to create a state of disharmony,” he added.
