Houthi leader Abdulmalek al-Houthi disregarded in his speech on Friday the corruption of his militias reflected in the crimes committed against Yemenis from looting humanitarian aid and kidnapping individuals. He rather focused on the importance of recruiting people to become part of his group and ideology. The 100-minute speech didn’t give Yemenis any hope that the group would let go of the Iranian project. Once again, he slammed the Yemeni state during the term of late President Ali Abdullah Saleh and accused it of treason. Houthi preferred to remain silent towards the disasters caused by his insurgence, in which thousands of Yemenis were injured or killed. He saw this as a ‘resistance’ of the militia for the past five years and claimed that it became stronger as it is now manufacturing weapons, explosives, and missiles. Further, he reiterated concerns over ‘intellectual invasion’ and claimed that the western modern life-pattern is a threat to his followers and Yemenis. Houthi suggested that the ‘faith culture’ is the solution to face internal and external enemies since this would protect the group’s concepts, values, morals, bases and military capabilities. He accused the consecutive ruling systems in Yemen – before the insurgence– of relying heavily on their loyalty to the US. The speech also highlighted the reason behind the group’s animosity to the international humanitarian organizations operating in Yemen saying that these organizations aim to demolish the Yemenis’ morals and traditions. He went on saying that the US fought Yemen in the past on the political, economic, militarily, education, social and cultural levels to dismantle the society.
