Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber, described on Friday Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi as a “fond of lies,” adding that his rhetoric would not fool the Yemeni people or make them forget the crimes committed by his militia. In a series of tweets posted Friday on his account, the Saudi Ambassador responded to the recent speech of al-Houthi who spoke on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the war against the Yemenis and renewed his loyalty to the Iranian regime. “Despite all the bloody wars launched by the Houthis for no reasons, and despite terrorizing Yemeni tribes, the people in Yemen always hoped that (Al Houthi’s) militias would come to their senses. However, promises were repeatedly broken and peace agreements were violated,” he wrote. Al Jaber accused the militia group of besieging the President, taking the state as a captive and invading Taiz and Aden. The Ambassador asserted that the Houthis’ empty speeches wouldn’t lure the Yemeni people or hide their crimes against humanity. Commenting on the militia’s loyalty to Iran, Al Jaber wrote, “This would not change the fact that Yemen’s history and tribal identity is part of the geographic neighborhood and social fabric of the Arabian Peninsula.” He said Saudi Arabia always bode well to its sisterly people in Yemen, who certainly know that the Houthi coup constitutes the root of the problem and that the key to any solution in the country must pass by ending this coup. Al Jaber said Riyadh stood by the Yemeni people at the request of Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi to save the country from the Iran-backed Houthis, by offering military, economic and political support. He said Saudi Arabia trusts that Yemen is a neighbor state with its own sovereignty. In his latest speech, which came only hours after a possible agreement between the legitimate government and the militias for a ceasefire to focus on the fight against the coronavirus outbreak, Al Houthi wiped out all hopes of reaching calm in the country by promising to continue the war in Yemen.
