The Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Yemen has announced that the funds seized by the security bodies, worth YER18 billion (USD72 million), were returned to the Saudi-led coalition. STC seized these funds while en route to the Central Bank of Aden, claiming that these funds were being spent in the wrong directions. STC said, in a statement, that based on the council’s commitment to implement Riyadh Agreement and its keenness to make the Arab coalition efforts succeed, STC President Aidarus al-Zoubaidi ordered handing out the funds seized by the security bodies on Wednesday to the Saudi leadership in Aden. Zoubaidi added that Saudi Arabia exerts restless efforts in all fields to support security and stability through treating the wounded and paying allocations and salaries to the security and military sector. The council avoided handing out the funds to the ‘corruption group’ managed by the government, the statement added. STC spokesman Nizar Haitham told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that the ‘corruption group’ means the group seeking to hinder Riyadh Agreement. He considered that the amounts cashed through the Central Bank of Aden are spent in ways that don’t serve the coalition. Further, Haitham stressed that STC adheres to implementing the agreement with Riyadh. He noted that among the agreement’s articles is to halt violent acts by legitimate authorities.
