Yemeni Army Hints Military Solution to West Coast Situation

The Yemeni National Army warned that its patience with Houthi violations of the ceasefire deal in Hodeidah is running thin, hinting that it will resort to a military option to spare the Yemeni people massacres committed by the Iran-backed group. Yemeni National Army spokesman Brigadier General Abdo Abdullah Majali said that the Houthi militias “killed the Stockholm Agreement,” which they struck with the legitimate government in 2018, after they failed to abide by any of the clauses. “Houthis killed the deal signed in Sweden, violated all the ceasefires, and carried out military operations in the west coast. The national army repulsed a surprise attack by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias that ended the Sweden agreement and threw all the understandings and deals on the Red Sea bottom,” Majali told Asharq Al-Awsat. He also hinted the Yemeni National Army opting for a military response to ongoing Houthi violations. “If Houthis continue to commit crimes against the Yemeni people--by planting land and sea mines, digging tunnels and trenches, deploying snipers, and committing massacres--our patience will not last long, and the military option is the closest and safest to spare our people Houthi violations supported by Iran,” Majali added. When asked about the latest developments in Nhim district, east of Sanaa, which witnessed clashes during the past few days, the Yemeni army spokesman confirmed that “most sites Houthi militias infiltrated have been restored to pro-government forces’ control and that battles are ongoing.” As for whether military operations in Nhim will push towards liberating Sanaa or remain limited to the liberation of the district, Majali said: “In strategic plans, the National Army and the leadership of the armed forces aim to complete the liberation of all Yemeni lands from Iranian-backed Houthi militias.”
