UN Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths has called for de-escalation in Yemen, stressing the Yemeni people's right for a better life. “The parties in Yemen must de-escalate violence and renew their commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict. The Yemeni people deserve better than a life of perpetual war," Griffiths said in a tweet. "More than a year ago in Stockholm, the parties promised the Yemeni people to keep Hudaidah safe, to use port revenues to pay salaries and to return detainees to their loved ones. They must fulfill these promises and build a conducive environment for the peace process,” he continued. The Security Council is scheduled to hold a closed session on Yemen, Tuesday. West sources said it's likely that a statement will be issued after the session. British Ambassador to Yemen Michael Aron said in an interview with AlHadath Alyoum that: "The three main topics to be tackled at the session are halting escalation in Nahm, returning tranquility between Saudi Arabia and Houthis and implementing the Riyadh Agreement." He stressed the need to hold comprehensive negotiations in Yemen, adding that the coalition and UK won’t accept that Houthis become the next ‘Hezbollah’ in Yemen. On Sunday, Aron told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that throwing accusations back and forth among Yemeni parties on who started the violence won’t resolve the problem.
