The Arab coalition to restore legitimacy in Yemen said it intercepted and destroyed ballistic missiles launched by Houthis against Saudi Arabia on Saturday. Reuters reported sources saying that the attacks had no impact on facilities belonging to oil giant Saudi Aramco and that the attack happened outside of Aramco facilities. The Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed ballistic missiles heading towards Jazan and Najran after it intercepted three explosive-laden drones targeting the kingdom. The coalition affirmed that the Houthi attempts to target civilians and civilian objects is hostile and barbaric, vowing to take strict measures to protect civilians. For its part, the UAE strongly condemned the Houthi attacks against the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement reiterating that these systematic terror attacks by the Houthis reflect their blatant disregard for the international community and all international laws and norms. The Ministry urged the international community to take an immediate and decisive stance to stop these recurrent acts, which target critical infrastructure and threaten the security and stability of the Kingdom, as well as global energy supplies. It also stressed that the recurrent threat of these attacks in recent days is a grave escalation that represents new evidence of these militias' attempts to undermine security and stability in the region. The UAE renewed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia over these subversive terrorist attacks and reiterated its stance against all threats to the Kingdom's security and stability. The UAE also reiterated its support for all measures taken by Saudi authorities to maintain the safety and security of citizens and residents. Also, Bahrain also strongly condemned the Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militia’s continued systematic and deliberate launching of drones towards the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, targeting safe civilians and civilian facilities, in a clear violation of international norms and laws. The Bahrain Foreign Ministry praised what it described as the vigilance and readiness of the Saudi Air Defense Forces, which managed to intercept and destroy Houthi drones on Saturday. It affirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with the Kingdom in the measures it takes to protect its security and stability and the safety of its citizens and residents. Bahrain further reiterated its call on the international community to take deterrent measures against the terrorist Houthi militia and all those who support it. For his part, OIC Secretary-General Yousef Al-Othaimeen affirmed the organization’s support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its land, security, and stability. Al-Othaimeen said that the organization condemns Houthi aggression and those who provide the militia with money and arms. Earlier, Saudi Arabia affirmed to the UN Security Council that it will take all necessary measures to preserve its lands and the safety of Saudis and expats, in accordance with its obligations under international law. This came in a message that was delivered by the Kingdom’s permanent representative to the UN, Abdallah Al-Mouallimi. “The continuation of military hostilities by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias is a flagrant violation of international law and the relevant Security Council resolutions,” said Al-Mouallimi. “On Aug. 31, Abha International Airport was attacked by Houthi militias with an armed drone, and the futile attempt resulted in the injury of eight staff members of different nationalities at the airport, including Saudi, Indian, Bangladeshi and Nepalese nationals, with some of them in critical condition.” Al-Mouallimi stressed that such a terrorist act, which targets the civilian infrastructure and poses a threat to innocent civilians, is a heinous war crime, and that the Houthis must be held accountable, in accordance with international humanitarian law. “Thus, we call on the Security Council to strongly condemn these practices and assume its responsibility against the Iran-backed Houthi militias, in order to put an end to their threats to international peace and security and hold them accountable,” he added.
