Sisi Hails Lebanese Army’s Role in Protecting Stability

Beirut - Asharq Al-AwsatEgyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi hailed on Wednesday the role played by the Lebanese army in preserving Lebanon’s stability. Sisi met in Cairo with Lebanese Army Commander, General Joseph Aoun, stressing Egypt’s keenness on Lebanon’s security, safety and national interests. He underscored the “depth of relations between Egypt and Lebanon, both at the official and the popular levels,” said presidential spokesman Bassam Rady. Armies, continued Sisi, are the backbone of the stability and unity of countries. For his part, Aoun expressed Lebanon’s keenness on bolstering the close historic ties with Egypt. He voiced appreciation for Egypt’s support to Lebanon in all fields, saying it was an extension of its pivotal role in maintaining stability in the entire Arab region. Rady said talks between Sisi and Aoun tackled bilateral cooperation and ways Lebanon can benefit from Egyptian expertise in several areas.
