Saudi Arabia urged the two parties to the Riyadh Agreement to reject differences and work with the approved mechanism. A statement issued by the Saudi Foreign Ministry called on the Yemeni parties to implement all of the provisions of the agreement, unify the ranks, prevent bloodshed and help bridge the rift between the country’s components for the sake of security and stability. The ministry also encouraged the different sides to support efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution that ends the crisis in Yemen. Riyadh stressed that political and media escalation by the Southern Transitional Council would undermine efforts to achieve security and stability in the country. Yemeni Foreign Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak welcomed the Saudi stance, saying on his Twitter account that the statement contained clear messages on respecting the agreed commitments to stop the escalation and prepare for the return of the Yemeni government to the interim capital, Aden. Described as historic, the agreement was signed on November 5, 2019 between the legitimate Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council in the Saudi capital, with great Arab and international support. The Saudi foreign ministry stressed that the return of the Yemeni government to Aden was a top priority, urging all sides to stop all forms of escalation at the political, military, security and media levels, according to the mechanism agreed upon by the two parties.
