Egyptian-Italian Talks to Improve Tourism

Cairo - Asharq Al-AwsatCairo has stressed the importance of resuming travels from Italy to Egypt as coronavirus restrictions eased. Egyptian Ambassador to Rome Hisham Badr and the Italian Minister of Tourism, Massimo Garavaglia, discussed measures taken by the Egyptian government to ensure that tourist destinations are free from the coronavirus. The meeting was attended by the director of the EgyptAir office in Rome Hatem Mahmoud. A statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that Badr also conveyed an invitation from Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled Anany to his Italian counterpart to visit Egypt, at the head of a delegation of major Italian tourism companies, with the aim of inspecting the precautionary measures taken by the government at tourist destinations in Sharm el-Sheikh. Reliable sources in Egypt revealed that safety measures at the Egyptian airports are being applied in line with international aviation standards. The main Egyptian tourist destinations, such as the Red Sea and South Sinai governorates have become safe, Badr assured, and all preventive health measures have been taken to protect tourists. Following the meeting, the Italian Ministry of Tourism issued a statement on the discussions held with Badr to push for the safe resumption of visits by both Italian and Egyptian travelers, with the aim of increasing the flow of tourists, especially to the Red Sea resorts.
