Sudan’s national army reaffirmed it would not withdraw from Al Fushqa district near borders with Ethiopia when the Chairman of the North African country’s Sovereignty Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan reiterated commitment to fulfill all goals set out by the Sudanese Revolution. In a Tuesday speech marking Eid al-Adha, Burhan said he is committed “to move forward in achieving the goals of the glorious December revolution.” The Chairman stressed the need for unity among revolutionary forces and national forces that believe in change and the principles and aspirations of the people in terms of freedom, peace, and justice. Burhan called on citizens to be more vigilant and careful as well as work to uphold the values established by the revolution. “We need (revolution values) today more than ever… challenges and dangers surrounding our country will only add to our determination to move forward in achieving the goals set out by the glorious revolution,” said Burhan, according to the state-run news agency, SUNA. He emphasized that confronting challenges requires unity within national ranks and attention to the higher interests of the state and the requirements of democratic transformation. “This will not be achieved except through strengthening national unity, accepting the other, and rejecting the policies of exclusion, fanaticism, regionalism, racism, or partisanship,” said Burhan, calling on citizens to “rally around” Sudan. Also marking the occasion, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok reiterated the need to preserve social peace and pointed out signs of an agreement emerging for the nation’s east. Hamdouk reviewed an initiative he launched, dubbed “National Crisis and Transition Issues - The Way Forward.” The prime minister indicated that it is an initiative concerned with developing a national project that can accommodate everyone and complete transition tasks on many levels. Hamdouk appealed to the citizens of eastern Sudan to scale up their adherence to peaceful coexistence values and spreading social peace. He called for cooperation to address the developmental grievances in the east.
