The Yemeni Congregation for Reform (Islah) has condemned the Palestinian Hamas movement for honoring the Houthi militia, describing it as an act of “provocation to the Yemenis" who are resisting the group's war. Earlier, Houthi media reported a meeting between Hamas's representative in Sanaa, Mouath Abu Shemala, with Houthi commander Muhammad Ali al-Houthi. During the meeting, Abu Shamala thanked the group for its support during the latest Israeli attack on Gaza and presented Houthis with a plaque in recognition of the group’s latest fundraising campaign. The meeting sparked national outrage among Yemenis and politicians supporting the legitimate government. The Islah party issued a statement denouncing the meeting, saying it comes while the Yemeni people and children are dying because of Houthi ballistic missile and drone attacks in Marib, Taiz, Hodeidah, and Dhale. The move is a “provocation to the Yemeni people who face the Houthi aggression, just like the brotherly Palestinians face the Zionist aggression.” It is surprising for a movement resisting the Zionist occupation, which kills Palestinians in cold blood and displaces them, to honor the Houthis that have a similar behavior, said the statement. “Hamas should have respected the right of the Yemeni people to resist the Houthis and distanced itself from this disgraceful act, especially that the movement resists injustice and criminality. It is not appropriate for Hamas to approve for the Yemeni people what it disapproves for the Palestinian people.”
