Moroccan King Congratulates Israel's New Prime Minister
Arab World
Rabat - Asharq Al-AwsatMoroccan King Mohammed VI sent a letter of congratulations to new Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. King Mohammed VI expressed to Bennett his "warm greetings and best wishes for great success” following his entry into office this week. The letter affirmed that Morocco will “continue its efforts to promote peace, justice and coexistence in the Middle East, which will ensure security, stability and brotherhood for all peoples living side by side.” This came as Palestinian Hamas Movement Chief Ismail Haniyeh arrived in Morocco at the invitation of the ruling Justice and Development Party (PJD). He met Wednesday with Moroccan Prime Minister Saad-Eddine El Othmani and officials from the PJD. Also, the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) announced that it will receive Thursday a Hamas delegation. Reliable sources in Rabat told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that the visit will less likely be “formal”. They stressed that Othmani made the invitation from his position as secretary-general of a party and not as a prime minister. The sources added that this visit is “normal”, especially that the western stances are “known”. In December, Othmani signed on behalf of the Moroccan government a Moroccan-US-Israeli deal to normalize ties with Israel.
