Cairo - Walid AbdulrahmanEgypt's President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi called Thursday for spreading peace, upholding the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, and rejecting all forms of violence and extremism that have claimed the lives of many. His statements marked the occasion of signing the Document of Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together between Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar. Sisi assured that religious institutions and leaders in Egypt are exerting their best to promote dialogue between followers of the different faiths and to raise awareness of common human values. He further called upon the world to enhance cooperation to confront hate speech and spread the culture of peace and coexistence. “The world today is celebrating an important human value that we need more than ever before. It is the value of human fraternity,” he tweeted on Thursday. Sisi said this momentous occasion reminds all of us of the importance of dialogue to understand and accept the other and the importance of strengthening cooperation to reject fanaticism, confront hate speech, and spread the values of tolerance, justice and equality to achieve peace and stability. The United Nations General Assembly had proclaimed February 4 as the International Day of Human Fraternity. Celebrated for the first time this year, the initiative comes two years after the release in Abu Dhabi of the Document on Human Fraternity which hopes to raise the desire to work for a culture of peace that supports the efforts of all those who are committed to tolerance, inclusion, understanding and solidarity, especially during these times tragically marked by the pandemic.
