Asharq Al-Awsat
Saudi Arabia will reopen its airspace and land and sea border to Qatar as of Monday, Kuwait's foreign minister said in televised comment, under a deal towards resolving the Gulf rift. In televised remarks, Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah said Kuwait Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al-Sabah telephoned Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the eve of the 41st Gulf Cooperation Summit. The officials underscored their keenness on unity by signing the AlUla Declaration, he added. Saudi Arabia’s AlUla will host Tuesday’s summit. Sheikh Nawaf expressed his great gratitude to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their keenness on ensuring the success of the summit, added the Kuwait FM. The Emir hoped from the leaders of the Gulf countries and Egypt that Tuesday’s summit will be a meeting of reconciliation that bolsters unity and solidarity and ends the rift. Sheikh Tamim later announced that he will be attending the summit. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt had severed ties with Doha in June 2017 over its financing and support of terrorism.
