Qamishli - Kamal SheikhoSweden supports the US efforts to achieve unification among Kurdish political parties, the Foreign Ministry's Special Envoy Per Orneus has announced. During his meeting with the parties of the Kurdish movement in Qamishli, northeastern Syria, Orneus asserted that Sweden is working with the EU Commission to include Kurdish representatives in the international talks on the Syrian crisis and the UN-sponsored political process. Orneus told Asharq Al-Awsat that his country hoped all parties would be able to put an end to ongoing clashes to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of the region’s residents. The envoy asserted that his country supports Syria’s unity and sees the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria as an example to be applied across the country. Orneus indicated that Sweden and the EU rejected last year’s Turkish incursions in Syria, and the control of Kurdish regions. They denounced Operation Peace Spring and its control over Ras al-Ain and Tal Abyad cities, as well as Operation Olive Branch in Afrin, in Aleppo’s countryside. Last Tuesday, the Swedish envoy chaired a high-level delegation from the Foreign Ministry during their visit to Qamishli between October 17 and 21, where they met with the Presidency of the Kurdish National Council. Member of the presidency of the Kurdish National Council, Mohammed Ismail, quoted Orneus as saying that Sweden is a friend of the Kurdish people and interested in the US support of unity and dialogue among the parties. Meanwhile, member of the Executive Committee of the Democratic Society Movement Aldar Khalil assured the Swedish delegation that his party is keen to continue the dialogue with the Kurdish Council, aiming to reach a unified Kurdish front to carry out the democratic peace process in Syria.
