Yemeni President Calls For Resisting Houthi Insurgents
Arab World
Aden- Asharq Al-AwsatYemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi has called for resisting the Houthi insurgents, saying that his purpose is to build a federal state capable of protecting the people. His statement was made in a speech on the 52 anniversary of the national independence day in Yemen's southern port city of Aden, which falls on the 30th of Nov. While several Yemeni provinces witnessed events and protests for this occasion, Hadi considered this a chance to be inspired by the concepts and values that serve the country. The President hailed the previous presidents, calling on prioritizing the country’s interests above all others. He added that believing in the cause and purpose was more important than any other weapon in the field, and that was how the revolution that emerged from Radfan achieved victory. The president also denounced the ‘drifting’ that usually happens when selfishness and sectarianism prevail in countries instead of patriotism. Hadi affirmed that he will be committed to turning into reality the Riyadh Agreement signed between the legitimate government and the Southern Transitional Council. Speaking about the peace quests with Houthis, he stressed that peace is his strategic choice and that war was imposed by those who called for it – he urged the Houthi militias and whoever thinks that arms might be a solution to deal responsibly with the agreements and respect the public interest. He affirmed that the Yemeni legitimacy works responsibly with the UN envoy and seeks to alleviate the people’s agony. The President praised the efforts exerted to resolve the Yemeni crisis, especially those made by Saudi Arabia.
