Yemen's GPC Calls on Bin Daghr to Renounce Recent Statement

Yemen's General People's Congress (GPC) has expressed regret over a recent statement released by the Speaker of the Yemeni Shura Council Ahmed Bin Daghr and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Abdel Aziz Jubari. The GPC demanded that Daghr and Jubari take back their statement and stressed that any political stances issued by the party's leadership must first gain internal consensus within the GPC. The Yemeni party reaffirmed that legitimacy in Yemen, embodied symbolically by President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, is gained through references, the constitution, international resolutions, and regional and global recognition. For its part, the Yemeni House of Representatives described the statement by Bin Daghr and Jubari as shocking. It said that it exclusively reflects an individual opinion unrelated to the House of Representatives. Furthermore, the House of Representatives slammed the statement's content as nonbeneficial to the interests of Yemenis. The GPC warned that any derogation from the internationally recognized legitimacy includes acknowledgment of the legitimacy of the de-facto authority imposed by the Houthi militias and the Iranian project in Yemen. The party also pointed out that the Saudi-led Arab Coalition continues to provide multi-faceted support to Yemen's legitimate institutions, warning that insulting the Coalition and its sacrifices only serves the Houthi coup in Yemen and Iran. In a statement, the GPC rejected any acknowledgments of the military option failing, especially that national heroes from the National Army and pro-government resistance continue to fight and show steadfastness in battlefronts across the nation. Meanwhile, an official source at the Defense Ministry voiced their surprise towards the issuance of what they described as "an irresponsible statement by some official figures who exploit calling for peace and stopping the war in the wrong context and improper timing." The source, quoted under the conditions of anonymity by the Saba news agency, stressed that the war in Yemen was waged by Iran-backed Houthi militias. "The war waged by the terrorist Houthi militia with Iranian support is a war imposed on the Yemenis and their armed forces," said the source. "It is the choice of the militias who believe that war and weapons are the only means to impose their control over the Yemenis, undermine the state, and break the constants of the Yemeni nation represented by republic, unity, democracy, and equality," they added.
