The United Arab Emirates and the World Health Organization have announced the conclusion of a partnership to support the healthcare sector across the globe, with WHO adopting the UAE’s government accelerators model to reach key targets and implement strategic initiatives to enhance healthcare and improve quality of life around the world faster, as well as expanding the scope of healthcare service provision globally. The partnership was launched through a memorandum of understanding signed in Abu Dhabi by Cabinet Affairs Minister Mohammed Al Gergawi, and World Health Organization Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The two sides will work together to support the WHO’s Work Program 2019-2023 and achieve its Triple Billion Targets, which is centered on improving the universal health care coverage of 1 billion people, ensuring that 1 billion others enjoy better health and well-being, and that a third 1 billion people are better protected from health emergencies. That would ensure the third Sustainable Development Goal is achieved. Gergawi said the UAE’s partnership with the WHO is another step towards enhancing and building human capital and shaping the future, and that this is the beginning of a global, comprehensive pact to promote ingenuity in finding health solutions and inter-governmental and inter-organizational cooperation to build sustainable societies. For his part, Dr. Ghebreyesus said: "The need for global collaboration on data and evidence has never been felt more acutely than during the COVID-19 pandemic. WHO is committed to being a modern, data-driven organization to make a measurable impact on the lives of those we serve. WHO is very pleased to collaborate with the government of the UAE to realize this vision." The UAE Government will work with the WHO to improve their bilateral cooperation on improving global health, healthcare and quality of life, as well as strengthening joint efforts to make health care provision faster. The partnership will also focus on building the health service capacity, molding future leaders who can implement the strategic initiatives and bringing about positive change to WHO institutions.
