Islamic Jihad Delegation Heads to Cairo

Gaza - Asharq Al-AwsatA delegation from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad left the Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing on Wednesday, heading to the Egyptian capital, Cairo. The delegation consists of 16 figures, including Mohammed al-Hindi, Khaled al-Batsh and Nafez Azzam, in addition to officials from the group and members of its politburo. A reliable Palestinian source told Turkey’s Anadolu news agency that the figures heading to Cairo will join another delegation coming from abroad, led by Islamic Jihad Secretary-General Ziyad al-Nakhala, to meet the Egyptian General Intelligence Service. The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that the delegation was invited by Egyptian officials to discuss Palestinian issues. The Egyptian authorities didn’t make any official statements regarding the visit. The duration of the visit remains unknown.
