For the second time in less than two weeks, Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anas Al-Saleh survived the confidence test on Thursday, after the majority of lawmakers voted in his favor. Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Saud Al-Harbi also won the confidence of the parliament with the majority of votes. Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim announced that the National Assembly renewed confidence in the deputy prime minister and minister of interior, with a majority of 32 votes. Meanwhile, 29 deputies opposed a motion against Al-Harbi, while 15 others gave the minister a no-confidence vote. Thursday’s session saw the second grilling request in less than two weeks against Al-Saleh, after the National Assembly discussed in its regular session another one submitted by MP Mohammed Hayef. In August, the parliament rejected a no-confidence vote against the interior minister, after the motion was opposed by 35 MPs and supported by 13, of the total 48 lawmakers present during the session. The vote came regarding the 2018 “leaked recordings”, which created a massive public uproar in the country after discovering that personal accounts of prominent public figures, among them lawmakers and journalists, were being monitored. “There is a fabricated confusion over the issue of leaks… Some deputies call for violating the regulations and hold the minister accountable because he applied the law, and some also seek personal gains,” MP Khaled Al-Shatti said during Thursday’s session, expressing his rejection to the motion submitted against the minister.
