Saudi Experts Expect the End of the 'Office Era'

Saudi Arabia’s business sectors are currently relying on teleworking to avoid the spread of the coronavirus. This has led human resources experts to expect the decline of in-office jobs in favor of remote working. These expectations are based on several factors, including the companies’ possibility to reduce their operating costs while obtaining the same work productivity from the employees working from their homes. Moreover, electronic platforms, such as Zoom, are allowing the holding of business meetings efficiently. Digital marketing jobs are taking the lion’s share in this new trend of teleworking. The Technology Center of the Saudi Ministry of Communications and Information Technology issued a recent report on the most important global and local changes that are taking place due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. The report expected that homeworking would increase even as the pandemic recedes. The report stated that businesses would face a choice as to how employees would continue their work in the future pattern. According to the report, remote work has the ability to increase flexibility and operational efficiency, improve access to talent, reduce cost, and increase employee satisfaction. In this regard, Bandar Al-Dabaan, Advisor at the Human Resources Administration, said that most of the jobs that are not related to production and services could be done remotely, adding that many institutions would have to cancel open-space offices in the post-coronavirus period.
