A senior Kurdish official revealed that a military delegation from the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, which visited Damascus on October 13, handed over a "road map" to Russia that provided dialogue as the only way to resolve the Syrian crisis. “It is more of a military understanding than an agreement, and it has two aspects,” Aldar Khalil told Asharq Al-Awsat. “First, the unity of Syria and working within the national framework whereby border protection is required of all Syrians,” he said, noting that the second aspect looks to curb the dangers of a Turkish invasion. “The presence of the regime forces and the Russian police in the border as a military function does not conflict at all with our project, it being a national project within the framework of a unified Syria,” said Khalil, who is a senior official at the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. Khalil stressed that their meetings with the Syrian government were sponsored by Russia and are aimed at protecting the border from attacks by Turkey and its Syrian proxies. “Once this danger is over and the situation stabilized, we will move to discuss political and administrative issues, our priority today lies in protecting the border,” he clarified. Regarding the fate of the civilian governing structures that run seven major cities, he told them that they are continuing their work without any change. Khalil added that Kurds have channels of communication with all actors in the Syrian war. He also stressed that Turkey is going ahead with its plan, and criticized practices by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, saying his recent policies will be the beginning of the collapse of his regime.
