Coalition: Yemen Ceasefire Ends without Extension

The Arab-led coalition spokesman announced that a 48-hour truce in Yemen ended at midday Monday after hundreds of violations being staged by Houthi insurgents and former president Ali Abdullah Saleh loyalists.

Gen. Ahmed Asiri stated that the breaches by Houthi militias since the beginning of the truce on Saturday exceeded 500 violations, 80 percent of them within Yemen territory.

The coalition spokesperson explained that violations within beginning hours of the truce took place in Yemen and the Saudi southern provinces of Najran and Jizan.

He accused the rebels of 563 violations in Yemen and an additional 163 cross-border violations against Saudi Arabia.

“There was no respect (for the truce), only violations,” Asiri said.

“At the military level, for the moment, we have no orders to extend the ceasefire. It’s over,” he added.

The coalition had said the truce could be renewed if the insurgents abided by the deal and allowed aid deliveries to besieged cities.
