Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf stressed on Sunday that the upcoming intra-Yemeni consultations set for Riyadh are an opportunity to end the conflict and achieve peace. The talks will be held at the GCC headquarters in the Saudi capital from March 29 to April 7. Al-Hajraf met in Riyadh on Sunday with the ambassadors to Yemen of the Gulf member states and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. He briefed them on the consultations and how they will serve as a platform for all Yemeni people to end the conflict among them and guide their country to safety. He said the consultations are part of the GCC's constant efforts to end the conflict and reach peace that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people and restores a dignified life to them. In announcing the consultations last week, Al-Hajraf said they are aimed at uniting ranks, bridging the rift between the conflicting sides, supporting legitimacy and strengthening state institutions. “Invitations to the Yemen talks will be sent to everyone and they will be held with whoever attends,” he stated. “The GCC will host the talks between Yemeni factions to resolve the crisis. We urge all Yemeni parties to cease fire and start peace talks.”
