The United Arab Emirates has launched a 10 million meals campaign to support low-income families and individuals affected by the COVID-19 outbreak across the UAE. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, MBRGI, will oversee the campaign in collaboration with the Social Solidarity Fund Against COVID-19. Under the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE prime minister and ruler of Dubai, his wife Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum launched the initiative on Sunday. "The ‘10 million meals’ campaign aims to reinforce social solidarity and cohesion in the UAE to enable us to emerge from the global crisis stronger," Sheikh Mohammed said. "The public, private and humanitarian sectors are united today to empower our people to overcome the global crisis without leaving anyone behind," he added. Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed that "Sheikha Hind will lead the noble cause of feeding the hungry throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan in our nation, the nation of giving and peace." He said that the ’10 million meals’ campaign complements the rest of the country’s humanitarian campaigns to ensure no one sleeps hungry or in need in the UAE. "Providing food for everyone, especially with the approach of the Holy Month of Ramadan, is our priority during our battle against the pandemic." Further, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention announced on Sunday 479 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 6,781. As part of its plans to expand the scope of testing in the country, the ministry conducted 23,000 additional COVID-19 tests among UAE citizens and residents using top-of-the-line medical examination methods. MoHAP also announced the death of four individuals, a Gulf national, and three Asian nationals. The total number of deaths resulting from the pandemic has reached 41, while 98 individuals have fully recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,286, the ministry added.
