Israeli Settlers Attack Palestinians in West Bank
Arab World
Tel Aviv - Asharq Al-Awsat
A group of extremist Israeli settlers, affiliated with the "Price Tag" movement, launched Friday a string of attacks against Palestinians “in retaliation against the Israeli army” for demolishing eight illegal settlement homes. The extremist settlers leveled lands of Yasuf and Sakaka in the West Bank, wrote racist anti-Arab slogans in Beita, cut 33 olive trees in As-Sawiya and threatened to ramp up attacks against Palestinians. This followed the military’s demolition of eight illegal homes built by Israelis to expand settlements in Yasuf and Sakaka. Director of Civil Affairs in Salfit, Usama Musleh, said the settlers are no longer satisfied with their settlements and are using their disputes with the army as an excuse to attack Palestinians. The army protects these settlers while they carry out their attacks and even assaults Palestinians who defy them or take pictures to document the attacks, he added. Dozens of settlers attacked military vehicles during the demolition process, slashing their tires and attempting to set them on fire. A military spokesman said the settlement houses were demolished because they were constructed without a license and on archeological locations.
