Hamas: Israel Will Be Blamed for Virus Outbreak If No Medical Supplies Delivered

Hamas politburo member Khalil al-Haya said the movement is ready for all options and scenarios in order to force the Israeli occupation to provide all the medical requirements needed to confront COVID-19. Haya warned that Hamas will take action if Israel does not transfer medical supplies to the Gaza Strip to fight off the coronavirus. "The medical means at our disposal to battle coronavirus are insufficient and we must increase the stocks we have," said Hayya. He warned that Israel will be responsible for an outbreak of the virus in Gaza if it fails to facilitate the arrival of aid shipments and to provide medical supplies. The senior member indicated that mediators are pressuring the Israeli government to ensure medical supplies are sent to the enclave, some of which have already been delivered but remain insufficient to confront the virus. He stressed that the movement is able to take the appropriate decision to protect its people and provide them with the supplies to fight the pandemic. Earlier, a number of Israeli officials announced that medical supplies should not be sent to Gaza if the Israeli government doesn’t reach a deal on their prisoners with Hamas. Hayya said that Hamas is supporting government institutions and providing them with advice. It has also financed and fully equipped a thousand quarantine rooms which it then handed to the government. He stressed that the movement has put all its charitable organizations at the disposal of the government, as well as harnessing all of its capabilities in confronting the novel virus. Hayya indicated that Hamas purchased 30 respirators that were delivered to public medical centers in Gaza. Palestine has until now registered 431 infections of coronavirus, 307 in the West Bank, 13 in the Gaza Strip and 111 in East Jerusalem, with 71 recoveries cases and 3 fatalities. This includes seven cases recorded on Sunday in Shuqba, west of Ramallah, and in Tulkarm and Kafr Aqab, north of occupied Jerusalem.
