Palestinian Detainee Stabs Prison Guard
Arab World
Tel Aviv - Asharq Al-Awsat
Reliable sources affirmed that Israeli prisons are witnessing growing tension because of the authorities' pressure on the Palestinian prisoners, which forced one detainee to stab a prison guard in the latest angry reaction by captives. Palestinian detainees in all prisons and from all factions shut down their sections and returned the meals. These sources complained that the prisons’ administrations are backing off from their previous agreements with captives through worsening their living conditions. In Ramallah, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said that a state of extreme tension “prevails in Ofer prison, after the Israeli Prison Administration claimed that a prisoner stabbed a guard in Section (12)”. Ofer prison administration decided to transfer 30 captives to Rimon and Negev desert prisons. The Club added that this step is a continuity of the struggle against the torturing procedures taken by the occupation prisons’ administration. The latest was the arbitrary transfer of 34 children from Ofer prison to Damon prison on the 13th of Jan. They were locked up in a section with poor conditions. The Palestinian minors suffered from continuous repression and abuse. Only last week, it was revealed by the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club that Palestinian minors are being locked up in underground cells that are full of mice and cockroaches. In this context, Damon prison administration threatened imposing sanctions on 41 female captives as a punishment for their rejection to boycott Jihan Hashimah who rebelled against the administration and didn't stand when counting captives.
