Syrian High Negotiation Council Heads towards Activating the European Initiative

Riyadh – Syrian High Negotiation Council (SHNC) revealed a joint initiative executed by friends of Syria to stop the war in Aleppo and send humanitarian aids to the civilians. The initiative comes at the time of “Uniting for Peace” project which includes European calling for army citizens of Aleppo to protect themselves and defend their land.

George Sabra, vice president of Syrian opposition negotiating delegation in Geneva and member of SHNC, told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that Europe announced an initiative two days ago to ceasefire and send humanitarian aids.

He added that the European statement was clear about the barbaric and cruel activities of the Syrian regime and its allies, namely Russia.

He also explained there is a European inclination towards transferring the Syrian regime’s war crimes to the specialized international courts.

As for Uniting for Peace, Sabra said that over 70 states has presented their motion for this project as observers expect it to be successful in turning the Russian Veto.

Sabra told Asharq Al-Awsat over the phone that he hopes their friends would support the project submitted at the General Assembly by Canada to protect the Security Council from the Russian veto and avoid leading to the end of international peace and security.

He confirmed that the council is in continuous contact with European leaders like French, German, and British who are efficiently taking actions these days.

Sabra hoped that initiative would come out with real actions and lead to the drop-off humanitarian and medical aids on civilians in liberated Aleppo. He also wished that Europe would arm the fighters with needed weapons to defend their land and take them out of the hell of Bashar al-Assad’s barrels and Russian missiles.

Sabra then added that Russia had admitted they wanted Assad in Syria, which is rejected by Syrians. He elaborated that Assad remaining in power for any time in the future means that Syria and the region are open for terrorism and extremism like nothing seen before.

The vice president concluded that Syria is technically a Russian project with the plan to empty Aleppo from its residents. But, according to Sabra, it won’t be successful because citizens of Aleppo are aware of that and refused to leave their city even with the safe corridors.
