Mosul Battle: A War of Open Agendas, Vague Files

Baghdad- While Iraqis show willingness to liberate the second biggest city Mosul and Ninawa Province which means getting rid of ISIS direct occupation of Iraqi cities and territories since more than two years, other active parties in this battle (Americans, Turks and Iranians) have interrelated interests that are all based on a U.S. wish to pave the way towards presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to win the elections.

The price of achieving this target might be the life of ISIS leader. The U.S. target and interests seem adequate to the Turkish and Iranian intentions.

On the military level among these parties, the U.S. has more than 5,000 consultants spread over several bases on the Iraqi territories, in addition to the air-force leading the international coalition. As for Iran, it has Major General Qassem Soleimani, thousands of consultants and dozens of Public Mobilization militias. Turkey has around 2,000 soldiers in Bashiqa Camp and other forces of unknown numbers distributed over nine bases in Kurdistan territory.

This reality seems acceptable by the Iraqi government given that these military movements and interventions were coordinated with it at the first place. Turkey is the only country that did not coordinate enough with the Iraqi government before allowing its forces to enter Iraq; this makes the possibility of a conspiracy a possibility regarding the Turkish existence in Iraq.

“Iranians and Turks seem to handle the Iraqi crisis in a more rational way than Iraqis, starting from their interests and the outcome of military operations… They don’t seem to face any international objection as they intervene in Iraqi territories that appear to be open,” said Former Mosul Governor Atheel al-Nujaifi to Asharq al-Awsat.
